Anyone who knows me, and my work, is aware of my affinity for aspects of the Annales School of historiography (though not its materialism). I am especially fond of their affinity for taking the 'long view' of historical development(s), otherwise known as the 'longue duree' approach. I admit that part (but only part) of the school's attraction for me is its affinity for traditional Jewish historiosophy.
The Jewish approach to history is also very 'longue duree.' It also tends to be cyclical.
