Over Shabbat, I received a 'hit' from 'Palestinian Territory, Occupied.' Following up the server, I discovered that the hit came from PaLTel in Ramallah/El-Bireh, the capital of the Palestinian National Authority.
This really ticked me off. It's a simple ממה נפשך. The Palestinian cities that the PA rules are, by definition not occupied. The rest of the area beyond the Green Line is (according to international law) of undetermined status. Hence, it is not occupied. It is only occupied according to Palestinian maximalists (and the Israeli Left). The bottom line is that Sitemeter should not be taking sides in a political dispute.
I have sent a protest to their website. If you see another counter here soon, you'll know why.

If anything, you've just got Israel to blame and no one else...
Have to agree with Jameel there. While there is ceratinly plenty of room within the area of International Law to argue that there is no occuptaion (see the materials by Prof's. Shochetman and Einhorn for a start) it is significant that in terms of Israeli Law, the Israeli courts have consistently ruled that the Israeli presence in post-1967 areas to which Israeli Law has not been applied in full consists of a belligerent occupation. This doctrine pre-dates the Barak post-zionist court.
I know. I know. I wish Sander Gillman would write a popular version of Jewish Self-Hatred, so non-experts could see just how pathological this society is.
The blame probably doesn't lie with Sitemeter; they are probably just doing a reverse lookup on the IP address, and gleaning the information either from the registration information (supplied most likely by PalTel) or by some other third party that maps IP addresses to geographic locations.
